Movie Fashizzlessss

Stardust

Hey hey kids. Our movie section review has been down for a while, due to the writer being busy with his skool's musical in september, followed by fasting month and then his other skool. Well yeah, these are just excuses, but who cares.

Anyways, we kickstart our char-kuey fuelled reviews again, with Stardust. To be honest, I didnt know anything abt this movie. Im cool with neil gaiman's stuff. But Im only familiar with his Sandman collection and only novel I read by him is the Anansi Boys. And the only other Gaiman movie I heard of was Mirrormask. That didnt get too much publicity. But his latest adaptation seems to be an advertising juggernaut. Quite extensively marketed.

So gave this movie a shot and I absolutely loved it. I was craving for something along the veins of LOTR or Eragorn coz I kept seeing the Seeker trailer on the MRT. And Stardust proved to be quite a fantasy. A magical story set in Old England. Of a town bordered by a wall, supposedly separating them from an unknown world known as Stormhold. A lao ah peh guards the hole which leads to that unknown, which looks juz like an empty field with the naked eye.

But a young man named Dunstan managed to bamboozle the old guardian and make his escapade into that other world, and came back from his adventures inseminating a supposed-queen traded as a slave. 18 years on, his son is to repeat the same feat, and Tristan will be on his own adventures.

The reason Tristan wants to venture to that world was to catch a fallen star he had promised to the girl whom he thot was in love with, but it was merely lust of course. And the star turns out to be a sweet young thing, and not to mention a very blonde Claire Danes. She looks stunningly sweet, gave me a toothache.

So there were others pursuing the fallen star, all for their own personal needs. Of witches wanting her heart for eternal life, and of future kings needing her jewel in order to be officially declared as King of Stormhold. See how Tristan transforms, from being juz blinded of his misson to bringing his prized possession to his Sienna Miller hoochie at first, protecting her for all the wrong reasons, to protecting because he has fallen for her. She in turn becomes his own star, shining on him. They even meet sea-farers (or perhaps, cloud-farers) who are gathering lightning macam catch fish like that.

Superly utterly romantic fantasy lah. So bring ur significant others to watch it. And seeing De Niro as a Kumar-esque character, that was juz hilarious. There's loadsa funny scenes too. Watch out for Ricky Gervais of UK The Office fame. He really acts as his Office character in here, his mannerisms and all that. And the goatman would give that goat thingy in Narnia a run for his money. So i'd categorize this as a fantasy-romantic-comedy. Wow. I dont think Ive ever heard of such a genre ever. Dont miss this superb adaption of Neil Gaiman's work.

All in all, this gets 5/5 char kueys lah. All for it's feel good-factor. Go on, tell ur gf how much she's glowing. U'll thank me. Heeh.
