Dublin
Finally we were ready to take off, and coolness, no aerobridge again so had to walk on the tarmac in the cold cold nite.
And this pic was taken juz before one of the airport staff told me, "No pictures", wif his finger waggin at me. So 50mins later, reached the Dublin airport. It was pretty cold also in Dublin, and drizzling, juz like it was in Bournemouth (wat is it wif Europe wif cold n rain??). So apparently the taxi driver told us tat we juz missed the really cold part over the weeknd, when temp dropped to near zero. And also, we missed some action-packed adventure when there was a shootout at the highway we were on the nite before, apparently some gangland shites, wif UZIs being blasted. Nasty. I tink Grifter is the name of like their big gang lah, like S'pore got Omega n Pak Hai Tong, coz i saw the Grifter thingy being spray-painted in loadsa places.
So reached our apartment, location was excellent as below there was a SPAR (it was evrywhere in Dublin, juz like our 7-11, and i really mean evrywhere) wif 3 malls surrounding our area. In fact, the location was so perfect that the view from the living room is this restaurant called Cactus Jack, and I can clearly see wat they're eating, and in turn they can see what Im wearing (or not wearing).
Another great thing I was abt to find out abt Dublin was the tv. We were watching Therapy? performing, when they said FUCK and it wasnt even censored. I tot i heard wrongly, until they said"Fuck Bush", so it was really no censorship at nite. And while trying to sleep, was watching this gag shows ala Candid Camera, skali one of the gags, the woman took off her top, tot maybe got bra, but noooooo. She was all naked in her morning glory n then, this guy stripped all the way wif his dong a-hanging. Yowzah! And this was shown on its comedy channel, when in the day the channel becomes nickelodeon. Wonder if those kids who stay up late to watch Spongebob, skali juz see some bo(o)bs.
Their tram, called LUAS. Dont know wat it stands for tho.
Dublin's tallest monument. A very tall flagpole.
Juz to show how tall i am compared to it. Not very.
Where In Flames n Sepultura performed on Tues nite. The Ambassador Theatre.
At Temple Bar, like their Mohd Sultan or Boat Quay, the only place which opens at nite. I dont know wat it is wif Europe of shops closing at 6pm.
They dont listen to him anymore. One of the many statues that can be found on the streets of Dublin.
I contemplated going in n say, Hey im from S'pore. But was afraid i'd be held hostage in exchange for the death sentence to be laid to rest.
Bank of Ireland, which used to be some government building in the early century.
At Trinity College. Applications are now open.
Whos tat eskimo baby?
Still at the College 89.
The Dublin castle. Reputation speaks for itself.
Pics for Monsieur Herman. A Coats-of-Arms for each and every Ireland President. Apparently the requirement to be the president of Ireland, is tht u need not be born in Ireland. So mates, those who aspire to become President, u can start staying in Ireland n then apply for it yea.
More Coats-of-Arms.
The symbol of Eire. The harp. Apparently Guiness already made the harp its own, so in a bid not to have people associating Ireland wif tat George Lam drink, Guiness agreed to changing the harp, making it face the opposite direction.
A room where in Victorian times, the females with no dance partners will wait here in hopes of a man, asking her to dance. Bogey woogey.
The chair where Kings (and Queen Victoria) used to sit on. Apparently King Henry or George was the lst person to sit on it in 1913 before Ireland becam independent. The chair is massive, and it was built for the first king, who sat on it to fit him juz nicely. So u can imagine how big medieval people were. The guy near the chair was our guide for the castle. He really gave loadsa info and was worth the admission fee.
This chandelier weighs a tonne, and when it was first put (i dont know how those ol century fellas managed to get it up) it caused the roof to collapes. Till now, u can see the room, one column is higher than the other as the great weight is pulling the roof lower.
The ballroom. But it was closed on tat day as there was a function goin on at nite, and apparently, when we watched tv later tat nite, Bono was the guest of honor. Dang.
Some portraits on the ballroom roof, depicting how ireland is under the rule of Britannia.
Records Tower. Seriously. I tink tats how Tower records got its name. No tower, no life.
So Dublin, is much like any modern city in Europe i guess, rich in history, balanced by modern architecture. Leceh part was using the Euros, but at least the Euros were well defined in its color combinations. The tour of the Dublin castle was great, coz ive got a thing for castles. More peeks later.
